Travelling to Italy

Italy is a long, narrow country, connected to the rest of Europe through various communication channels, mainly trains and airplanes.
To travel through Italy, it is possible and even advisable to use public transport for the major destinations and cities and in places where traffic is heavy and parking difficult to find, while the smaller places often require the use of a private car. Driving around Italy is not a great problem, with a good roadmap, a little knowledge of spoken Italian, and the help of a GPS driving system.
