What to see
- The Cathedral of Cefalu': located in Piazza Duomo was built under the patronage of Roger II of Sicily, beginning in 1131. This style of Norman architecture would be more accurately called Sicilian Romanesque. Two strong matching towers flank the entrance porch, which has three arches (rebuilt ca 1400) corresponding to the three naves. A semi-circular apse is set into the east end wall. Its strengthening counterforts that work like buttresses, are shaped as paired columns to lighten their aspect. The mosaics are among the most famous in the world.
