History

Castel San Vincenzo rose as a fortress in defense of San Vincenzo al Volturno, and was part of a system of castles that protected the Benedictines against Saracen. Very soon the settlement grew with families working in the fields of the monastery. In 1442 it became independent and in 1585 came under the rule of the De Regina family, who were lords of the place until feudalism was abolished in 1807.
