Posta Fibreno, Province of Frosinone, Lazio Region, Italy

The town looms on the top of a high mountain crest in a wonderful position overlooking the lake below.

Province of Frosinone

Its name derives from the position half way between Rome and Naples, since it was used to change the horses that delivered the mail (a "posta"). The lake is part of a nature reserve and is actually a giant water spring of clearest waters coming from the underground water basins in the mountains of the National Park of Abruzzo. From the lake a freezing, transparent river called Fibreno takes origin (the river was described by Latin writer Cicero in his "De Legibus").
