Tora e Piccilli, Province of Caserta, Campania
This is a "comune sparso" with townhall in Tora, that rises along the slopes of the Roccamonfina volcanic complex, an ancient eruptive area extinct about 23 centuries ago.
The municipality consists of two boroughs, Tora, whose toponym probably comes from the Latin Torus (= rise of land) and Piccilli, probably a surname. A few kilometers from the Casilina stateroad and the ancient Via Latina, the municipality owes its importance to its geographical location, a strategic point of military sighting.
