Summonte was built between the 10th and 11th centuries. It was so called because of its location at the foot of Mount Partenio.
During the Norman period it was a fiefdom of the Malerba family. During the year there are many fine festivals, such as blessed bread given to the people in honor of S. Nicola, the chest-nut feast and the representation of the ZEZA during carnival.
