History

The first mention of the center goes back to the 10th century, when in a document of AD 922, at the time of the Norman conquest, the town was donated to Giovanni V, the bishop of Bovino. The plague of 1658 made many victims but in 1700 Pinto y Mendoza, prince of Spain, had it restored. The fiefdom belonged later to Cristina Spinelli, the princess of Cariati, but only to return to the Pinto family.
