Toro, Province of Campobasso, Molise, Italy
The little town rises along the tratturo (shepherds' track) going from Abruzzo to Apulia, and its economy was therefore heavily dependent onthe pastoral economy.
With the crisis of the age-old sistem of seasonal migration of shepherds and flocks after the unity of Italy in 1860, also Toro suffered heavily and gave a heavy contribution to emigration, with over two-thirds of its population. Among the many descendants of emigrants, also the Brazilian musician Toquinho, whose grandfather emigrated to São Paulo.

The name first appears in historical records in 1092 when the lord of Limosano, Roberto di Tristano, donated it to the benedictine Abbey of Santa Sofia, and consequently Toro remained a church fiefdom dependent from the diocesis of Benevento until 1785.
